The History of "Magemenos Avlos".
In 1961, “Vatrachonisi” area was still a sandlot and the “Proskopon Square” was full of soil while it was bordering with the stream of “Illisos” which was still uncovered. A small alley was the connection between the stream and the square, which was named “Amynta”.
In this very neighborhood, “Magemenos Avlos” was built to write its own history. Countless celebrities from the fields of Arts, Sciences and many political figures made this unique place their haunt. King Constantinos used to order “Fonti” and “Pikata”, Prime Minister Constantinos Karamanlis used to eat “Kozak Fillet” while the great Manos Chatzidakis preferred “Kroketes Parmezana” and “Crepes Titize”.
During the winter time the place becomes cozy and atmospheric and every evening small music groups play music with natural sounds. Every Sunday noon, a big buffet with extraordinary variety of cold and hot dishes is served together with a variety in desserts, all in very friendly price.
In Summer time in the beautiful garden of “Proskopon Square”, one is fascinated by this little “oasis” which consists of the beautiful plants surrounding this small area around and within the square, which gives you the feeling that you may not be in the center of the city of Athens! During every season “Magemenos Avlos” organizes very interesting and unique artistic (music and visual arts) and philological events.
“Magemenos Avlos” is open every day both day and night hours.
